FTSE flourishes on financial fightback

Financials were firmly back in favour in London today, with the FTSE 100 posting a strong 266.50 point rise (4.75%) to 5875.80.

Strong pre-tax profit news allowed interdealer broker ICAP to bounce back from recent losses, it recorded a 14.04% rise to 666. Schroders shared the recovery sentiment, its non-voting stock climbed 13.80% to 1002 and voting closed 12.42% higher to 1104. The London Stock Exchange also performed well, up 10.96% to 1751. Cadbury Schweppes and Carphone Warehouse were among just four stocks to fall today, dipping 1.95% to 553 and 1.46% to 287.75 respectively. In New York, the Dow Jones is up on positive job statistics, with the index currently 44.79 points higher (0.37%) to 12314.96....
