Divorce laws deficient on pensions

Only 4% of women over 50 who are divorced have received a share in their partners’ pension pots, research commissioned by Norwich Union has found. This is because most divorced before the introduction of law ensuring fair distribution. Half of women over 50 have no pension provision at all. Some 45% say they expect to rely on their partner’s income in retirement, although statistics suggest one in seven of all women will reach retirement as divorcees.
