The credit crunch which swept across the FTSE last week appears well and truly over after the index climbed 74 points, or 1.19%, to stabilise at a healthy 6,270.
Northern Rock was among the early climbers, jumping 45 points, or 6.18%, to 773p, while Schroders, up 51 points to £13.31, and MAN Group, up 18.25p to 499.75p, will also be happy this morning. However, gains were stemmed by losses for three firms: Rentokil, down 3.5p, or 2.02%, to 169.5p, Persimmon, down 20p to £12.33, and Land Securities Group, which has dropped 22 points, or 1.21%, to £17.90.
