Having had a tough day yesterday, traders on the London Stock Exchange lifted the UK's main indices and helped the major stocks Vodafone and Yell Group to end the day ahead of most other firms.
The FTSE 100 index closed up 14.9 points or 0.3% to 4372.6, while the FTSE All Share index ended the day just a fraction higher at 2176.7 and the FTSE 250 index suffered a 0.6% fall to 37.6 points or 0.6% to 6071.8. Vodafone ended the day up 2.5p or 2.13% to 120p, closely followed by Yell Group, publisher of telephone directories in the UK and US, which closed up 7p or 2.03% to 351p. SAB Miller, the brewer, also rose 11.5p or 1.66% to 703.5p while bookmakers William Hill gained 10.5p or 1.99% to 538p.
