Markets drop on global recession fears

The FTSE fell 54 points, or 0.92%, to 5841.5 this morning following the Dow Jones' 256.56 point, or 2.04% drop to 12325.42 as global recession fears worsen.

In London, British Airways fell 7.75 points, or 3.47%, to 215.75 while Sage Group, a software services provider, fell 6.3 points, or 3.17%, to 192.2. Imperial Tobacco Group rose 26 points, or 1.12%, to 2357 while National Grid rose 4.5 points, or 0.62%, to 727.5. In New York, Intel Corporation fell 0.84 points, or 3.8%, to 21.24 while Walt Disney fell 1.17 points, or 3.73%, to 30.18. Meanwhile, Wal Mart stores rose 0.14 points, or 0.26%, to 54.8. The Nikkei 225 fell 3.1% to 12,917.51 as Canon dropped 5% to 4,61 and electronics manufacturer Matsushita fell 4% to 2,02. To comment on th...
