Miners flatten early FTSE rally

The FTSE is down a fraction, losing 6.3 points or 0.1% to 6,109.7 in early trading, as initial gains of around 30 points, following a mild recovery on Wall Street last night, have been offset by mining losses.

Swiss miner Xstrata is the biggest loser with a drop of 2.22% to £22.88, closely followed by Rio Tinto which is down 1.6% to £26.48, while Antofagasta has slipped 1.42% to 451p. Friends Provident is also down 1.48% to 199.75p, while cruise operator Carnival has fallen 1.45% to £23.85, although Johnson Matthey is helping to limit losses with a rise of 1.39% to £15.36. However, British American Tobacco is posting the biggest gains with a rise of 1.84% to £16.02, closely followed by BT Group which is up 1.63% to 296.25p, while Reckitt Benckiser has added 1.6% to £26, and ITV has climbed 1.15...
