The FTSE fell 1.69%, or 106.6 points, today to 6182.8p.

Sage Group rose 6.75 points, or 2.77%, to 250p. Smith & Nephew rose four points, or 0.7%, to 572p. Diageo rose four points, or 0.38%, to 1050p. ICAP rose 1.75 points, or 0.37%, to 477p. BT Group rose 0.5 points, or 0.16%, to 316.75p. Northern Rock took a 155.25 point, or 35.45%, dive to 282.75p. Alliance & Leicester plummeted 273 points, or 31.27%, to 600p. Enterpries Inns. Fell 46 points, or 7.37%, to 578p. Barratt Developments fell 60.5 points, or 7.29%, to 769p. Persimmon fell 70 points, or 6.89%, to 946p.
