A decision by the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates in the US to 4.75% has led to a strong morning on the FTSE, the index climbing 138.7 points, or 2.21%, to 6422.
Persimmon has jumped a huge 69p, or 7.33%, to £10.10, and is closely followed by Schroders, up 78 points, or 5.88%, to £14.04, and Barratt Developments, up 45 points, or 5.76%, to 826p. The only losses on the FTSE this morning have been minimal. BT has dropped 0.5p, or 0.16%, to 315p, while Sage Group has slipped 0.25p, or 0.1%, to 248.5p. In the US, the Dow Jones also had a strong day, finishing up 335.97 points, or 2.51%, to 13739.39. JPMorgan Chase led the pack of climbers, gaining 2.53 points, or 5.59%, to 47.82.
