FTSE up on British Energy bid rumours

The FTSE100 is up 26.80 and edging closer to 6000 at 5918.10 this morning, aided by a 31.00 increase for British Energy .

The nuclear operator was the top performing stock following rumours French supplier EDF was considering making an offer. Other leading stocks included London Stock Exchange up 49.00, while AstraZeneca rose on news Morgan Stanley raised its price target and BT was another winner up 6.25. However, financials including HBOS and Lloyds TSB had a rocky start to the day down 14.00 and 9.00 respectively.
