Standard Chartered surge boosts FTSE

The FTSE closed at 6716.7p tonight after rising 19 points, or 0.28%.

Standard Chartered and Johnson Matthey both surged 48 points today, closing at 1690p and 1828p respectively. Standard Chartered jumped 2.92% while Johnson Matthey rose 2.7%. Man Groups rose 17 points, or 2.76%, closing at 633.5p. Experian increased by 14 points, or 2.27%, to 630p. BG Group rose 19 points, or 2.21%, to 877.5p. Rio Tinto plummeted 80 points, or 2.1%, to 3730p. BHP Billiton fell 27 points, or 1.74%, to 1527p. Lonmin fell 72 points, or 1.66%, to 4278p. Home Retail dropped 6.25 points, or 1.37%, to 450.25p.
