Compass points FTSE in the wrong direction

The FTSE 100 has got off to a poor start falling 1 point, or less than 0.1%, to 5163.1 in early trading, with Compass Group, the world's largest catering company, leading the decline.

Compass has declined 7% to 172.75p. The company says it has suspended the head of one of its units and hired Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer law firm to investigate allegations of corruption in some contracts awarded by the United Nations. But PartyGaming is pacing advancing stocks, surging 10.3% to 86p, after the on-line poker operator said third-quarter sales jumped 32% to $220m from its poker and online casino players.
