FTSE recovers after slipping over 1%

The FTSE staged a mini fightback to close only marginally down on 5,651, a drop of 15.6 points, or 0.28%.

The index, well over 1% down earlier in the day, has Ferrexpo mostly to thank for the recovery after the steel firm climbed 16.75, or 4.19%, to 416.75p. Ferrexpo was closely followed by Barclays, up 11p to 310.75p, and John Wood Group. However, Eurasian, down 71p to £14.12, Wolseley, down 20.25p, or 4.7%, to 410.25p and WPP all fell. In the US, a positive opening has seen the Dow Jones climb 23.04 points, or 0.19%, to 11,865.4. American Express, up 1.48 points, or 3.62%, to 42.36, Merck, up 1.05 points to 36.88, and Citigroup have all made strong starts, but Caterpillar, Du Pont and Ver...
