Zurich UK to cut 450 jobs

Zurich Financial Services is cutting 450 jobs in Swindon and Cheltenham through redundancies as part of its drive to cut costs by around a third and 2000 jobs worldwide.

Local offices were informed of the decision Friday, says a spokesman for the Swindon-based insurer. It is the Zurich International Solutions and Shared Services divisions which have been particularly hit by the £81m cost saving and could see staff either made redundant or redeployed where possible, according to a statement from the firm. That said, plans to cut around 2000 jobs were first announced by the firm in September 2002, in the hope it would cut costs by a third, alongside other developments to review the firm’s business model, overheads and streamline new business processes. ...
