FTSE runs into low Wall

A slide on Wall Street dragged the FTSE 100 lower in late trading; the index closed the week down 55 points, 0.83%, to 6585.2.

Cable and Wireless struggled on news it is to be sued by Digicel, for allegedly impeding its entry into Caribbean telecommunications markets. C&W closed the day down 6.8 points, or 3.60%, to 182. ICAP also had a tough day, the specialist intermediary broker lost 15.5 points, or 3%, to 500.5. Friends Provident led the gains by a substantial margin, speculation Axa may bid for the French group led to an increase of 7.6 points, or 4.25%, to 186.4. An HSBC upgrade to 'neutral' from 'underweight', has led to gains for BAE Systems this afternoon. The defence giant closed up 6.75%, or 1...
