Global research indicates an ever-emerging shift away from traditional retirement with just over one in ten individuals matching financial independence with old age.
A worldwide report entitled ‘The Future of Retirement’ by HSBC, questioning 11,453 adult individuals, finds 17% of people believe employers should have a mandatory retirement age with a further 80% in favour of working for as long as they are able and if they so choose. HSBC says three in four people questioned accept work will be a part of an ‘ideal later life’, while also accepting a later retirement will ease the burden on pensions, while in the UK, more than a quarter are willing to take on work in their later years the bank finds.
