Pensions minister welcomes deregulatory review

Mike O'Brien, minister for pensions reform, welcomes the Department of Work and Pensions' (DWP) Deregulatory Review of Private Pensions, published today.

The report examines how easing the regulation burden on employers could encourage workplace pension provision. It recommends changes including making it easier for employers to get back surplus funds in their own pension schemes and a move towards less detailed and prescriptive legislation. This would start with simpler rules on what schemes must tell members and changes to the circumstances in which an employer leaving a multi-employer scheme has to make a payment to the scheme.
