Scottish Life pensions guru Steve Bee has described the government's response to a petition calling for a reassessment of personal accounts as "disappointing".
Bee, pensions strategy director at Scottish Life, started a petition called ‘ProperPensions’ on the Prime Minister’s website in February. It asked the government to either guarantee £1 saved would make people £1 better off or to scrap personal accounts. The petition received 2,398 signatures at the time of its closure on the 20 April, but the government’s response stated: “if we want to continue to protect pensioners against extreme poverty within an affordable pension system, some means-testing will continue to be necessary”.
