ABI condemns CMC regulations - papers 21 Sept

Insurers have condemned government plans to regulate their claims departments under new rules designed to curb "ambulance chasers" who encourage spurious personal injury claims, reports the Times .

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) sent letters of complaint to the Treasury and the Department of Constitutional Affairs (DCA) yesterday after learning its members faced two layers of regulation over the way they handled claims. Stephen Haddrill, director-general of the ABI, described the regulations as “wholly inappropriate” and “entirely unnecessary”. The paper reports him as saying: “We strongly believe that such new regulatory barriers should not be put in the way of the insurer trying to get the claim settled quickly."
