The FTSE 100 Index has added 14.3 points, or 0.2%, to 6004.40 points this morning, led by Compass Group and Tesco.
Compass Group has added 2.9% to 242p. The world's largest caterer has appointed Richard Cousins as chief executive officer to replace Mike Bailey. Tesco has climbed 3.2% to 345.5p on news it may place its £12bn freehold property portfolio into a real estate investment trust to boost investor returns. Babcock has also soared 19% to 322p after BAE Systems and VT Group said they may make a joint bid for the defence and engineering contractor to take advantage of consolidation in the shipbuilding industry.
