FTSE up after late US surge

The FTSE 100 was up marginally this morning by 0.60% by 8:44am with the London Stock Exchange Group regaining 3.73% of its 6% losses of yesterday.

Pharmaceutical, AstraZeneca is down unlike its US counterparts, losing 3.32% so far this morning. Power companies are also an early drag with shares in International Power and Royal Dutch 'A' and 'B' losing 1.46%, 0.91% and 0.90% respectively. The Dow Jones closed up 1.78% at 8,078.36 after a late afternoon surge saw it pass the 8,000 mark and add 141.53 points for the day. Global Pharmaceutical, Merck & Co. was yesterday's biggest winner adding 6.37% to bring its share price to 30.24p by close of play.
