NU toasts 78% CI non-disclosure claims drop

Norwich Union says a campaign allowing clients to review their critical illness applications led to a 78% drop in claims declined for non-disclosure.

Consumers were allowed to rectify any unintentional non-disclosure leading to the number of CI claims turned down falling to 1.5% in the first half of the year. During the same period in 2007, 6.7% of claims were declined. NU says it paid out 813 CI claims, at an average of £72,000, between January and the end of July - 94% of total claims. This compares with 85% paid during the same period in 2007. "In recognising the needs of our customers we continue to lead the market in reducing the number of claims rejected for non-disclosure," NU head of protection products Louise Colley says. ...
