Metals price drop lead to falling FTSE

The FTSE fell 68 points, or 1.19%, to 5631.9 this afternoon as BHP Billiton plummeted following metal prices dropped.

BHP Billiton fell 813 points, or 51.16%, to 776.5 while copper miner Kazakhmys fell 117 points, or 7.04%, to 1546. Reuters Group rose 21 points, or 3.56%, to 611.5 while British American Tobacco rose 62 points, or 3.4%, to 1885. The Dow Jones fell 42.82 points, or 0.36%, to 11850.87 as General Motors dropped 0.68 points, or 3.1%, to 21.28 while American Express fell one point, or 2.41%, to 40.53.
