Commodity prices send FTSE higher

The FTSE 100 is up 22 points, or 0.34%, to 6,559.8 in early trading, as the mining sector pushes the index higher on rising commodity prices.

Lonmin has gained 4.03% to 337.66, closely followed by Rio Tinto which has advanced 3.79% to £32.83, while BHP Billiton has climbed 3% to £12, although Reuters Group is posting the biggest gains with a rise of 5.84% to 521p. Hanson is also performing well with gains of 4.49% to £10.71, following reports of a possible bid form HeidelbergCement, although gains are being limited by BG Group which is down 1.19% to 746p. Insurer Standard Life is currently the biggest loser with a fall of 1.26% to 332.5p, closely followed by Resolution which is down 1.12% to 660.5p, while Drax has slipped 1.0...
