Vertex sold to private equity firms

Vertex Data Sciences, the business processing outsourcing subsidiary of United Utilities has been sold for 217.5m in cash and debt to a group of US-based private equity firms.

The deal is expected to go through by the end of March, and includes all of Vertex’s business lines, including financial services, under which are gathered 1st Software and The Exchange. A sale of Vertex was announced last year, and led to much speculation as to the eventual price tag and which buyers might be interested – including competitor Capita, which has acquired Quay Software and Webline as its play in the IT supplier consolidation ongoing.
