Northern Rock gains continue to life FTSE

In London, markets closed ahead and the FTSE 100 was up 12.7 points, or 0.19%, to 6,547.9.

Northern Rock led the pack, up 9.9 points, or 6.52%, to 161.7p, followed by 3i Group, up 34 points, or 3.3%, to £10.64. Experian shares added 14.5 points, or 2.75%, to 541.5p, Old Mututal gained 4.6 points, or 2.74%, to 172.6p and SAB Miller climbed 36 points, or 2.61%, to £14.16. Tate & Lyle shares dropped 16.25 points, or 3.6%, to 435p, Alliance & Leicester lost 28 points, or 3.18%, to 852p and ICAP fell 16.5 points, or 3.1%, to 516.5p. On Wall Street, shares rose as traders awaited reports on job figures and factory orders and the Dow Jones was up 5.21, or 0.04%, to 13,973.26. Pfi...
