FTSE tumbles down Wall Street

The FTSE 100 Index fell 27 points, or 0.45%, to 6,022 points today as Wall Street tumbled on a key manufacturing report, which came in at its lowest level since April 2003.

Prudential fell 0.53% to £6.57 despite comments from the head of its Asian operation he expects the life business in Asia to at least double profit from new business in the next three years. Anglo American fell 0.42% to £23.52, BHP Billiton dropped 0.73% to £9.58 and Rio Tinto declined 0.11% to £27.12. Cairn Energy was the top performer, up 4.42% to £20.57, as it benefited from high crude prices and the looming flotation of its Indian business. Xstrata gained 2.02% to £23.26 as Goldman Sachs kept its “buy” advice on the shares and lifted its price target to £39.66 from £30.25. I...
