FTSE falls on Resolution takeover delay

The FTSE fell 71.6 points, or 1.24%, to 5712.4p this afternoon as Resolution dropped on news of a delay to its takeover by Pearl.

Resolution fell 40.5 points, or 5.66%, to 675.5p. Meanwhile, Old Mutual fell 6.8 points, or 5.51%, to 116.6p and Aviva dropped 29.5 points, or 5.09%, to 550p. Persimmon rose 12.5 points, or 1.77%, to 720.5p while GlaxoSmithKline rose 18 points, or 1.68%, to 1088p. The Dow Jones fell 34.3 points, or 0.28%, to 12147.83c after American International Group said auditors accused it of inflating assets’ values. Microsoft Corporation fell 0.56 points, or 1.96%, to 28.01c after it rejected Yahoo!’s takeover bid, worth more than $40bn. General Motors rose 1.2 points, or 4.56%, to 27c while ...
