The FTSE closed at 6595.8p this afternoon after rising 47.9 points, or 0.73%.

Kazakhmys rose 70 points, or 4.59%, to 1596p. Intercontinental Hotel rose 40 points, or 3.94%, to 1055p. Antofagasta rose 26 points, or 3.25%, to 826p. Yell Group rose 13.75 points, or 3.06%, to 463.25p. Anglo American rose 95 points, or 2.92%, to 3343p. Alliance & Leicester fell 58 points, or 6.81%, to 794p. Hammerson fell 52 points, or 4.26%, to 1168p. Barratt Developments fell 33 points, or 4.14%, to 765p. British Land fell 40 points, or 3.44%, to 1124p. Land Securities Group fell 56 points, or 3.21%, to 1687p. The Dow Jones reached 14060.97p today after rising 86.66 points, ...
