Citigroup's UK consumer business boss quits - papers 12 March

The head of Citigroup's UK consumer business has quit after overseeing a controversial decision last month to withdraw thousands of Egg cards from customers, reports The Telegraph .

The latest news and analysis from the banking and financial services sector Ian Kerr joined Citi when it bought Egg last year. Last month he caused a storm of protest from Egg customers when 161,000 saw their credit cards cancelled. Egg said the customers had shown signs of a deteriorating ability to pay their bills, but some customers protested that they had never missed a payment. Mr Kerr was also given responsibility for Citi's consumer business in the UK with a brief to transform it into a sizable player - something which has eluded the giant US bank in Britain.
