Stephen Timms has been moved from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to become the Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
Timms becomes number two to Gordon Brown and is likely to play a key role in future negotiations between the Treasury and other government departments with regard to the priorities for public spending.
