The latest Retirement Index from Prudential reveals that a third of pensioners live on less than £7,500 a year forcing over 60% to curb their spending with many cutting back on necessities, not just luxuries.
According to the research a worrying number of pensioners today are so poor they can barely live comfortably, driving some to consider drastic measures, with 2% saying money worries have got so bad they’ve contemplated suicide. Of the 60% of pensioners who are cutting back on spending, 23% have cut back on clothing, 18% have cut back on heating and electricity, while 12% have cut back on food at home and 6% have cut back on GP visits and medication.
