FTSE closes marginally down

Early struggles on the FTSE 100 continued throughout the day as the index finished down 51 points, or 0.77%, on 6565.4.

Among the day’s winners were Cable and Wireless, up 5.2 points, or 2.79%, to 191.9p. Experian, up 11.5 points, or 1.92%, to 610.5p and Schroders, up 20 points, or 1.46%, to £13.90, also had positive days. However, these gains were offset by looses for Royal & Sun Alliance Insurance, which finished down 9.7 points, or 5.72%, on 160p. Persimmon, down 49 points, or 3.46%, and Lonmin, also had poor days. In the US, the Dow Jones finished down 3.5 points, or 0.03%, to 13522.15. Among the early winners are Boeing, up 2.63 points, or 2.75%, to 98.2, Home Depot, up 0.36 points, or 0.93%, ...
