In London, markets fell in early trading after shares made substantial gains on Monday and the FTSE 100 fell 60.8 points (1.02%) to 5885.8.
BHP Billiton made the biggest early gains, up 19 points (1.17%) to £16.37, while Kazakhmys added 15 points (1.07%) to £14.12. Other mining stocks also performed well. Cadbury Schweppes lost 35 points (5.71%) to 577.5p as the firm announced a fall in annual profits and said it will not return money to investors when it sells its drinks division later in the year. London Stock Exchange dropped 68 points (4.07%) to £16.03. Markets in the US were closed on Monday due to Presidents Day.
