Wall Street rally rubs off on FTSE

An early surge on Wall Street allowed the FTSE to break into positive territory this afternoon, closing Wednesday up 7.40 points (0.13%) to 5875.40.

BSkyB led the gains after it announced an additional 167,000 net TV subscribers in Q2 last year. The satellite broadcaster climbed 7.51% to 579.50. Interdealer broker ICAP also enjoyed a solid day at the office, up 4.81% to 707.50; while Reckitt Benckiser continued its morning form, closing 4.39% higher to 2641. BHP Billiton was always going to have a tough day as Rio Tinto rejected its improved offer. Mining giant BHP fell 4.63% to 1523. Cairn Energy and Taylor Wimpey also lost ground, down 2.68% to 2465 and 2.65% to 180 respectively. In New York, the feel-good factor of Disney ha...
