Demand for rented accommodation has risen to record levels in the third quarter of 2008 as increasing numbers put off home purchase until the housing market turns around.
Research by Paragon Mortgages reveals many landlords are seeing high levels of demand; a trend they expect to continue in the coming year. A survey of 200 landlords found 51% have seen increasing demand from tenants, with many claiming a boom in demand for rental homes. This is the highest level since the survey began in 2004. “The private rented sector is playing an important role in providing housing for those people that can't or aren't prepared to get on the housing ladder,” says John Heron, managing director of Paragon Mortgages.
