Turbulent trading on FTSE

In London, shares fell slightly in a turbulent day of trading, with the FTSE 100 closing down 5.8 points, or 0.09%, to 6,500.4.

Kingfisher shares jumped 13.5 points, or 7.39%, to 196.1p, followed by Tesco, which gained 27.5 points, or 6.31%, to 463p. Persimmon added 58.5 points, or 5.89%, to £10.51, Alliance & Leicester gained 43 points, or 5.52%, to 822p, and Home Retail climbed 18.75, or 4.82%, to 407.5p. Lonmin shares fell 205 points, or 5.53%, to £34.99, BHP Billiton dropped 80 points, or 4.41%, to £17.35, and BG Group lost 33 points, or 3.87%, to 820.5p.
