Indian stock markets have re-opened today after their forced closure following the terrorist attacks on the nation's commercial capital, Mumbai.
The benchmark Sensex index opened down 1% but this has been blamed on a hasty reaction to the atrocities, which began early yesterday. By mid-morning the index was down just 0.2% while the BSE index was also trading slightly lower. Mumbai yesterday forced a closure of the country's stock and commodity exchanges, driving up its risk premium in international credit markets. Among the stocks to fall today was hotels group EIH, which fell 4.6% after its main hotels - the Taj Mahal and Oberoi-Trident - were targeted in the attacks.
