Insurers punished as FTSE falters

clock

The FTSE100 has spent the entire day in decline as fears of a global recession and more losses on Wall Street spook investors.

At 3.15pm, London’s blue chip index was 135.60 points lower, or 3.32%, to 3,943.99. Insurers are at the forefront of the losses, with Prudential punished 17.09% and Old Mutual sharply lower for a second day, down 17.06%. Lloyds TSB remains at the top of the pile, up 3.93%. In Europe, Paris’ CAC 40 is 3.57% lower and Frankfurt’s Dax is down 2.54%. Wall Street has opened lower once again, as further gloomy economic news dampens any market revival optimism. The Dow Jones IA is currently 187.09 points behind, or 2.18%, to 8,390.82. Contact: Hysni Kaso 0207 484 9793 Hysni.Kaso@incis...
