The FTSE 100 has suffered a small drop closing down 12.8 points, or 0.23%, to 5,506.8 as energy stocks fell.
BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto Group paced rising stocks as gold and copper rebounded, to see the FTSE swing between gains and losses after a US report showed higher-than-expected consumer prices. BAE Systems also fell on concerns the weapons maker may get less for its stake in Airbus SAS following delays in deliveries of the A380 plane, while Associated British Ports Holdings rallied after Goldman Sachs Group agreed to buy the port company.
