Oil gains and metal losses set FTSE even

In London, markets made a late rally after dipping in late trading and the FTSE 100 closed down slightly by 1 point (0.02%) to 6,089.4.

High oil profits boosted BP, up 34.5p (5.96%) to 613p, while Royal Dutch Shell also benefited from high oil prices. B class shares added 112 points (5.82%) to £20.35, while A class shares gained 102p (5.26%) to £20.43. Kazakhyms shares dropped 77 points (4.46%) to £16.48 due to falling metal prices, and Persimmon lost 21.5 points (3.57%) to 581p as the housing market continued to look fragile. On Wall Street, stocks fell after shock announcement by the US’s drugs regulator and the Dow Jones dropped 48.69 points (0.38%) to 12,823.06.
