In London, shares were up after financial and mining stocks rallied and the FTSE 100 closed up 146.6 points, or 2.39%, to 6,280.7.
Barclays made the most impressive gains and shares added 27.5 points, or 4.74%, to 607.5p. Tesco shares were up 18.25 points, or 4.39%, to 433.5p, followed by Schroders, up 48 points, or 4.29%, to £11.68. BHP Billiton shared jumped 60 points, or 4.25%, to £14.71, while Next added 79 points, or 4.25%, to £19.40. There were only two losers on the FTSE 100, Rentokil shares were down 0.9p, or 0.52%, to 170.9p, followed by DSG International, which fell 0.3 points, or 0.2%, to 146.9p.
