Energy prices prop up FTSE

In London, market closed slightly up as crude oil prices continued to reach new highs and the FTSE 100 climbed 15.9 points (0.26%) to 6,220.60.

Cairn Energy shares added 135p (4.03%) to £34.81 due to high oil prices, while Kingfisher shares added 5.4 points (3.69%) to 151.7p. Whitbread shares dropped 31 points (2.22%) to £13.64, while Vedanta resources shares lost 50p (2.08%) to £23.50. On Wall Street, stocks climbed in early trading after Citigroup raised its valuation of Wal Mart and the Dow Jones climbed 83.86 points (0.66%) to 12,829.74. Alcoa shares added 1.19 (3.05%) to $40.23, while Microsoft gained 0.52 (1.76%) to $29.91. AIG shares fell 0.39 (0.97%) to $39.89 after Goldman Sachs told investors to avoid its shares, whil...
