Vodafone leads ringing day for FTSE

Heavyweight stocks enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance in London today, driving the FTSE 100 up 94.3 points, or 1.45%, to 6576.3.

Vodafone soared on news France Telecom recorded better than expected third quarter results. The Telco closed Thursday trading 11.5 points higher, or 6.45%, to 189.7. InterContinental Hotels climbed on ABM Amro attaching a ‘buy’ note to its stock, closing 61 points up, or 5.9%, to 1095. Home Retail also enjoyed a good day, finishing on 412.75, a jump of 19.75 points, or 5.035. Capita capitulated after the losing the rights to London’s congestion charge scheme from 2009 to rival computer giants IBM. It closed on 700, 41 points lower, or 5.53%.
