Energy companies drag FTSE down

The FTSE100 failed to finish higher today closing down 16.30 points at 6206.40 despite positive performance from house builders and miners.

British Airways also performed strongly up 16.50 at 284.50 following speculation Emirates could buy a stake in the company. However, energy companies had a bad day with International Power, British Energy Group and Scottish & Southern Energy in the top five losers list. Sub-prime concerns at the start of the earnings season led to big losses in the US. The Dow Jones opened the day down 172 at 12,680 while the S&P 500 fell 15 points to 1,404. IFAonline
