Around one-third of working age Britons will go overseas to live or work by 2020 because they expect to receive a better quality of life, according to research by Alliance & Leicester International.
A growing number of Britons are contemplating emigration either because they believe they ‘deserve’ to live abroad, suggest ALIL, or because they have to do highly paid and pressurised occupations, such as those seen working in the City, and would prefer to enjoy climates and culture which lowers this pressure. More specifically, research by the Centre for Future Studies conducted in October 2003 suggests around four million Britons will retire abroad by 2020 while two million Britons will choose to work abroad by 2020.
