The Financial Services Authority is proposing a short-selling disclosure requirement for all UK listed stocks but not a full ban on the practice.
The suggestions in its latest discussion paper follow a review of short-selling the FSA undertook after putting a hold on the practice in September 2008. The paper looks at arguments on both sides of the short selling debate and, examines potential regulatory constraints and options for transparency. It adds there is not a belief that banning short-selling should be required but instead proposes there should be disclosure requirements on all significant short positions.
