Labour appeared to reveal most of its plans in terms of savings in last month's Budget by agreeing to extend existing ISA limits until 2010.

It also welcomed proposals to make a further state payment into Child Trust Funds when a child reaches secondary school age. Also in his pre-Budget report, Chancellor Gordon Brown noted the Government’s consideration of matched savings was continuing with further pilots of the Savings Gateway scheme. Labour plans to extend the scheme, which matches savings pound for pound up to a limit, so that it will be piloted for 18 months in six areas experiencing what Labour calls “financial exclusion.” The pilot schemes will test a range of marching, endowment, limit and marketing methods.
