FTSE makes minor recovery thanks to banks

The FTSE has had a much better day today, rising 1.17%, or 67.2, to reach an index value of 5790.50 following yesterday's slump of 104.

HBOS was the day’s biggest winner, rising an impressive 9.69%, or 25, to reach 283. RBS had a good day too, climbing 7.89% to 229, representing a positive day’s trading for the banks. Lloyds TSB also made impressive gains of 20.75 to reach 353.5. Down on the loser table though was Carphone Warehouse, which slid 11.09%, or 25.25, to 202.5, after it claimed broadband internet connections were damaged by the housing slowdown. Kingfisher (118.9) and Alliance & Leicester (305.5) also ended in the red, slumping by 5.3 and 13.25 respectively. On Wall Street, things are also looking up for the ...
