Financials push FTSE near 6,400

The FTSE 100 index has ended the day up 36.4 points or 0.57% to 6,382.8, as financials pushed the index higher on the back of stronger equity markets.

Fund manager Man Group posted the biggest gains with a rise of 3.59% to 591.5p, while Amvescap climbed 3% to 635.5p, and Capita Group added 2.18% to end the session at 656p. Rolls-Royce Group also ended well with a rise of 3.03% to 502.25p, while Standard Chartered bank gained 2.17% to £15.52, although gains were limited by Vodafone which slipped 0.83% to 149.25p. Intercontinental Hotels was the biggest loser with a drop of 1.15% to £12.85, while Persimmon slipped 0.99% to £14.06, Smith & Nephew fell 0.98% to 607p, and Sainsburys declined 0.87% to 511p.
