Chancellor Gordon Brown has announced with the allowances now available, every pensioner household in the UK paying Council Tax will be entitled to receive a refund of £200.
Brown says: “It is a measure worth far more to pensioners than any other scheme,” adding that the figure is up from £50 announced in his Pre Budget Report. Adding: “I can do more,” he said resources available enables Government to offer free off-peak local area bus travel for all people over the age of 60 anddisabled people in England from April nest year. Winter fuel allowances are also being bumped up to £200 for pensioners; with £300 being provided for people aged over 85.
